FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 13, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Convention Center Authority, joined by Mayor Karl Dean, today dedicated the Marty Dickens Terrace at the Music City Center to honor the longtime volunteer instrumental in the development of the new convention center. The dedication ceremony took place on the Marty Dickens Terrace, which is located on the east side of the Music City Center directly across from the Omni Hotel.

"Marty's vision from the very beginning was to build something that would be great for the city and the people of Nashville and he worked tirelessly to make that dream a reality," said Charles Starks, President/CEO of the Music City Center.

Dickens was one of the first community leaders to support the project and was very instrumental in leading the coalition that fought for the new convention space in downtown Nashville. Since its inception in 2009, Dickens has served as Chairman of the Convention Center Authority.

"I'm deeply appreciative of this wonderful honor and Betty joins me in thanking Mayor Dean and the members of the Convention Center Authority for making this possible," said Dickens. "I'm honored to be part of something that has had such a positive impact on the city of Nashville."

The Convention Center Authority also announced the Music City Center has generated over $75 million in economic impact this fiscal year. During the month of October, the convention center hosted 34 events with 38,395 attendees, generating 47,833 room nights for a total of $22.9 million in economic impact. Tax collections continue to outperform projections and the Music City Center portion of tax collections was up 40.60 percent year over year for August 2014.
